3D Areola Restorative Tattoo

A 3D nipple-areola tattoo uses carefully blended pigments, shading, and highlights to create the appearance of a natural nipple-areola complex on flat or reconstructed tissue. The design can also enhance an existing nipple-areola complex or blend areas of pigment loss. Our goal is a realistic appearance tailored to your body and preferences.
Patients seek this service after mastectomy, breast reconstruction, gender-affirming top surgery, and cosmetic breast surgery such as augmentation, reduction, or breast lift.
Beginning With a Consultation
We review your health history, healing, scars, skin condition, and goals before planning treatment. You have a say in the color, size, placement, and details of your design. Tattooing is planned once the tissue has healed sufficiently, and we may request clearance from your treating clinician when appropriate.
What to Expect
Patients should plan for two sessions. After the first session heals and the pigment settles, we evaluate the result and refine the color and details during the second session. A third session is rarely needed.
Restorative tattooing can carry personal meaning after surgery. We provide private, trauma-informed care, with time to ask questions and make informed choices throughout the process.
Health Insurance Coverage
Nipple-areola tattooing after mastectomy or breast reconstruction may be covered by an eligible health insurance plan. We seek insurance authorization when coverage is available; approval depends on the individual plan.
