PRE-CARE INSTRUCTIONS
How should I prepare for permanent makeup or restorative tattooing?
Before booking: If you had tattoo work done elsewhere in the area you want treated, book a Consultation rather than a new service. Email clear, unfiltered front and side photos to [email protected]. Do not book if the treatment area is sunburned, peeling, or actively irritated. At least one year must have passed since your last dose of Accutane (isotretinoin) before tattoo treatment.
Allow at least 14 days for initial healing when choosing your appointment date. Avoid booking just before a vacation or special event.
Two weeks before: Avoid tanning. Stop using Retin-A, retinol, and exfoliating acids—including glycolic acid (AHA) and salicylic acid (BHA)—on the treatment area. Wait four weeks after treatment before resuming them. Vitamin C and hyaluronic acid products are acceptable if they do not contain exfoliating acids or irritate the treatment area.
Seven days before: Refrain from taking multivitamins, vitamin E, fish oil, and omega-3 supplements.
Three days before: Avoid aspirin, ibuprofen, naproxen, and similar anti-inflammatory medications. If aspirin or a blood thinner is medically necessary, do not stop it without your treating clinician’s approval; medical clearance may be required.
Appointment day: Avoid alcohol and energy drinks for the preceding 24 hours, and coffee on your appointment day.
For brow tattooing: have any brow waxing or threading done at least three days before treatment. Wash your hair before your appointment.
For lip blush: If you have a history of cold sores, ask your medical provider about an antiviral prescription before your appointment.
We’ll provide procedure-specific skin preparation and aftercare instructions. Children are not permitted at tattoo appointments.

3D NIPPLE-AREOLA TATTOOING FAQS
The skin and scars must be fully healed and stable. Many clients are advised to wait about 12 months after mastectomy, reconstruction, nipple reconstruction, chemotherapy, or radiation, but your timeline may differ. Written clearance from your surgeon or oncologist may be requested.
If a scar is thick, raised, or not holding color well, Nancy may recommend additional healing time or discuss whether inkless scar revision or another treatment should be considered first.
Many clients report little or no discomfort because sensation may be reduced after surgery. Sensitivity varies, and topical numbing may be used when appropriate. Nancy checks in throughout the session and can pause at any time.
Most clients need an initial session and at least one refinement visit. The first appointment may take approximately 1.5 to 3 hours. Follow-up is usually scheduled after the area has healed and the color has settled, often 8 to 10 weeks later.
Areola pigment is placed within the superficial layers of the skin, while an implant is positioned much deeper. The tattoo procedure does not intentionally contact the implant. Your surgical history will still be reviewed, and medical clearance may be required.
· Avoid alcohol for at least 24 hours before your appointment.
· Do not stop prescribed blood thinners, aspirin, or other medication unless the prescribing clinician approves it.
· Wear loose, comfortable clothing that allows easy access to the treatment area.
· Tell Nancy about allergies, medications, infection, recent procedures, or changes in your health.
· Tattooing must be postponed during pregnancy, breastfeeding, active infection, antibiotic treatment, or active cancer treatment unless medically cleared.
Mild redness, tenderness, or swelling may occur for several days. Surface healing commonly takes 7 to 14 days, while the final color may take 4 to 6 weeks to settle. Avoid swimming, soaking, saunas, tanning, and heavy exercise until you are cleared to resume them. Follow the personalized aftercare instructions you receive.
Some health plans cover nipple-areola tattooing as part of breast reconstruction after mastectomy. Coverage, authorization, network rules, and documentation vary by plan. Toriabel Aesthetics can assist with benefit information and documentation when possible, but payment is ultimately subject to your insurer’s decision.
Financing may be available when insurance does not apply or when out-of-pocket costs remain.
